Officiate Frequently Asked Questions:

 Q.  How do we get started?

A.  First, we have an initial meeting, phone conversation or e-mail and establish your needs and my (or my associates) availability as an officiate.  If you decide to work with me, I will send you a contract, questionnaire, and information to help you design your event or ceremony.  Once you have made your selection, we can schedule a planning meeting by phone, e-mail or in person.

 Q.  How do I secure you for our wedding?

A.  I ask for a non-refundable deposit and a signed contract to hold your date.  This will be applied to the final payment, due prior to your wedding day.

Should you prefer a ceremony with a short notice, I ask that you pay in cash at the time of the ceremony.

 Q.  Where can we have our wedding and/or reception?

A.  Outdoors, in a church, a hall, a restaurant, a private home, a park, beside the lake, living room, or in other words, the place you hold your wedding is entirely up to you.

 Q.  Do we need witnesses?

A.  Yes, under Montana law two witnesses must sign the marriage license at the time of the ceremony.

 Q.  Can we write our own vows?

A.  Certainly, I encourage you to do so.    But, many couples prefer using a mix of the samples I have available.  Again, the choice is yours.

 Q.  How long is a ceremony usually?

A.  Usually the ceremony lasts 15 minutes for the standard vows, additions to the ceremonies may take up to 30 minutes.

 Q.  Is pre-marital counseling required?

A.  I do not have pre-marital counseling available, nor do I require it.

 Q.  Do you marry those who have been divorced?

A.  Yes, I am happy to perform the ceremony of any couples who have a Montana marriage license.  My job is only to perform the ceremony and process your marriage license with the Clerk of Courts.

 Q.  Do you officiate at non-religious ceremonies?

A.  Yes, I certainly do.  I respect the wishes of couples who desire a civil ceremony.

 Q.  We have a family member who would like to do a special reading at the wedding.  Is this permitted?
Readings of special prayers, poems and writings add a beautiful touch to the wedding ceremony and are highly encouraged.

 Q.  We would like to light a Unity Candle at the ceremony. Who makes arrangements for this?

A.  If you wish to purchase a unity candle for the event, I have ceremonial options to symbolize unity which can be incorporated into the marriage ceremony.  There are many other special additions to ceremonies you might also consider - Mother's Rose, Sand, Children, Remembrance, are just a few.

 Q.  How far will you travel to perform weddings?

A.  My primary service area is Billings, Montana and surrounding towns.  However, I am willing to discuss traveling elsewhere for your wedding.
